On 30 July 1990 the Commission of the European Communities adopted a Decision concerning the conclusion of a five-year research and development cooperation Agreement in the field of radioactive waste management between Euratom and the National Cooperative for the Storage of Radioactive Waste of Switzerland (NAGRA). Euratom and NAGRA shall, in accordance with the terms of this Agreement, engage in specific cooperative arrangements, the objectives of which are to establish for the mutual benefit of the parties, a reasonably balanced exchange of information on research in the field of radioactive waste management. The programme of cooperation covered by this Agreement includes waste characterization and monitoring as well as waste disposal in geological formations. This Agreement follows an earlier five-year Agreement between the two parties which expired on 20 June 1989.
