International Sugar Agreement includes research clause
The International Sugar Agreement 1992 has been approved by the Council of the European Economic Community in its Decision of 13.11.1992 (92/580/EEC). The objectives of the Agreement are to ensure enhanced cooperation in connection with world sugar matters and related issues, provide a forum for intergovernmental consultations on sugar and on ways to improve the world sugar economy, and facilitate trade by collecting and providing information on the world sugar market and other sweeteners. The Agreement also aims to encourage increased demand for sugar, particularly in the area of non-traditional uses. In order to achieve these objectives, the Council may assist the sugar economy via scientific research and development and in the dissemination of the results obtained in this field. To this end, the Council may cooperate with international organizations and research institutions with the condition that no additional financial obligations are incurred by the Council.
