RDA calls for new collaboration projects. Apply now!

RDA Europe has just launched the second Call for Collaboration Projects to support communities that want to test or adopt RDA outputs. RDA Collaboration Projects should be short and focused activities with concrete results to be produced within a 6 month time frame. Collaboration Projects will receive a 15 000 € grant for carrying out these activities. The deadline for submitting your applications is 30 September, 2016.

The Research Data Alliance (RDA) is an international member-based organisation focused on the development of infrastructure and community activities to reduce the social and technical barriers to data sharing and re-use and to promote the acceleration of data driven innovation and discovery worldwide. This must be done across disciplines as increasingly research questions can only be addressed and answered if data and knowledge from various disciplines are included. These social and technical bridges are known as RDA Outcomes, Recommendations and Outputs. Testing these outputs in several real community applications, encouraging communities to adopt solutions and adapting the outputs based on concrete implementation cases, is fundamental to ensure a concrete uptake of RDA results. About the 2016 call for collaboration. A number of conditions must be satisfied for collaboration projects: - The collaboration partners must demonstrate that there is appropriate co-funding (e.g. person effort, in-kind, etc. matching the required funds from RDA). - Added value in improving data sharing and re-use and thus an alignment with the RDA goals and principles must be clearly illustrated. - Project coordination & supervision will be jointly carried out between an RDA expert and a senior expert from the collaboration partner. - The senior expert from the collaboration partner should be available to participate in a related RDA workshop as an expert. - Collaboration partners must give feedback to the RDA global processes, i.e. give feedback to the corresponding RDA groups via RDA internal communication tools. The story so far. RDA Europe launched the first call for collaboration projects in September 2015. One the first adopters of RDA outputs was EUDAT, a pan-European initiative building a sustainable cross-disciplinary and cross-national data infrastructure providing a set of shared services for accessing and preserving research data. They discovered that RDA Policy Templates can be used for harmonizing and standardizing data policies and data management plans. Another adopter was CLARIN, Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure. “It was very handy to have a lingua franca when discussing research infrastructure architectures. It was good to be involved as adopting community from the start of the work.” Dieter Van Utvanck Technical Director CLARIN ERIC about CLARIN adaptation of RDA’s Data Foundation and Terminology output.
