The INFEO (information on earth observation) system is now live online at: http://infeo.ceo.org/ It replaces EWSE (European-wide service exchange), the Centre for Earth Observation's (CEO) previous earth observation information system. The new system offers all the functions of EWSE and also allows on-line searching of major data collections for the first time. INFEO users can now access and search for satellite images and earth observation (EO) information without having to know where the images are held. A search engine allows users to specify their subject area of interest and lists the most appropriate categories for the following search. The system also offers access to some non-space catalogues containing ancillary information, as well as other information related to EO, such as links to people, organisations, projects, event announcements and adverts. The catalogues linked to INFEO will include: - ARIS (Agricultural and Regional Information Systems); - ISIS (Intelligent Satellite Information System); - EUROMAP at DLR; - MARF (Meteorological Archive and retrieval facility); - EURIMAGE; - SPOT; - IGN (Institute Geographique National); - HEOC (Hatoyama Earth Observation Centre). To help new users, an on-line tutorial is available via the INFEO website, which introduces the system, answers frequently asked questions and includes a guide on how to benefit most from the services INFEO offers (such as how to register, maintain personal data and search remote catalogues via INFEO).
