Supplementary financing for the Third Research and Technological Development Framework Programme
Final approval by the Council for supplementary funding of ECU 900 million for the Third Framework Programme of Community research and technological development (1990-1994) was established on 15 March 1993 by Council Decision 93/167/Euratom/EEC. The original Commission proposal (COM(92)309 of 28.7.1992) for a Council Decision on supplementary funding in this area, underlined the fact that the projected decrease in the level of funding towards the end of the Third Framework Programme would threaten the continuity of Community research activities. The supplementary funding breaks down in the following manner for the different activities: - Information technologies, ECU 180 million; - Communication technologies, ECU 65 million; - Development of telematics systems of general interest, ECU 50 million; - Industrial and materials technologies, ECU 100 million; - Measurement and Testing, ECU 19 million; - Environment, ECU 55 million; - Marine sciences and technologies, ECU 14 million; - Biotechnology, ECU 22 million; - Agricultural and agroindustrial research, ECU 44 million; - Biomedical and health research, ECU 18 million; - Life sciences and technologies for developing counties, ECU 15 million - Non-nuclear energies, ECU 60 million; - Nuclear fission safety, ECU 29 million; - Controlled thermonuclear fusion, ECU 110 million; - Human capital and mobility, ECU 69 million. The appropriation for the centralized action for the dissemination and exploitation of research results will continue to be drawn proportionally from each activity. An Annex to the Decision tabulates the total amounts deemed necessary to implement the various activities envisaged during the periods 1990-1992 and 1993-1994.
