A mid-term evaluation of the programme for Community action on health monitoring is required within the framework for action in the field of public health. The evaluation will examine the projects' effectiveness and efficiency in improving the implementation of Community public health measures and in providing a basis for decisions on future measures.

In 1998 and 1999, several Member States received funds from the European Commission to carry put projects under this programme. The evaluation will therefore be carried out in Sweden, the Netherlands, France, Ireland, Finland, Portugal, Greece, United Kingdom, Denmark, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. The programme management must also be evaluated.
