A call for proposals addressing the interconnection of national research and education networks has been launched by the European Commission's Information Society Directorate-General. The call opens up Action Line VII.1.1 of the Information Society Technologies theme of the Commission's Fifth RTD Framework programme.

The Commission has set aside some 80 million euro to fund research projects in this domain.
