The Directorate-General for Transport and Energy is inviting tenders for a study on the feasibility of a European environmental aviation charge to mitigate the environmental impact of air transport. 'In a European Union context, the ongoing debate on the possible implementation of taxation on aviation kerosene has highlighted the constraints in the use of this instrument stemming from the international regulatory framework,' says the Commission. In-depth consideration of alternative or complementary instruments which do not conflict with international law is therefore needed. The study should aim to provide the Commission with information and analyses necessary to develop policy measures for mitigating the global environmental impact of air transport.
