EARSEC geophysical processor
The Commission of the European Communities, Joint Research Centre, issues a restricted-procedure call for tenders with regard to a prototype SAR geophysical processor for the EARSEC data-processing network. EARSEC is a CEC project coordinated with the European Space Agency (ESA), aimed at establishing a pool of resources to support remote sensing airborne campaigns in Europe, making use of advanced sensors, such as a high-resolution imaging spectrometer and a fully polarimetric multifrequency synthetic aperture radar (SAR). A SAR correlator and post-processing chain, including calibration and geocoding, are already under development within the EARSEC project; a third block in the processing chain is required to derive the geophysical parameters relevant to a specific remote-sensing application. Proposals are therefore sought for the development of prototype software to fulfil this function, to be called a "SAR geophysical processor". It will be composed of a common platform supporting data input/output and interactive visualization plus a number of modules tailored to the extraction of physical parameters for various applications such as agriculture, geology and forestry. The software must be developed under an operating system compliant with XPG3, XRG4 and SVID3. Technical specifications of all components of the prototype will be given in the ensuing call for tender.
