The European Commission has invited proposals for a programme of Community action on injury prevention within the framework for action in the field of public health (1999 - 2003). The objective of the programme is to contribute to public health activities that seek to reduce the incidence of injuries, particularly those caused by home and leisure accidents. This will be done through the epidemiological monitoring of injuries by means of a Community system for the collection of data and the exchange of information on injuries based on strengthening and improving on the achievements of the former Ehlass system. Information exchanges on the use of this data to contribute to the definition of priorities and better prevention strategies will also take place. The budget available in 2001 for financing projects under the present call may be expected to be in the area of 1.3 million euro. Priority will be given to large-scale projects showing a clear policy dimension, projects actively involving all or a maximum number of Member states and EEA countries, as well as those applicant countries for which the decisions of the respective association councils have entered into force. Projects showing a clear potential for benefiting the injury prevention and public health structures and activities in the European Union, and ultimately its citizens will also be given priority. For further information, please consult the following web address: URL: http://europa.eu.int/comm/health/index_en.html(opens in new window) Proposals must be submitted in triplicate either by post (preferably registered) to: European Commission Injury prevention programme - DG SANCO/G/3 Bâtiment Jean Monnet Office EUFO 3/3187 Plateau du Kirchberg L-2920 Luxembourg or by courier or hand delivered to: European Commission Injury prevention programme - DG SANCO/G/3 Bâtiment Euroforum Office EUFO 3/3187 10 Rue Robert Stumper L-2557 Luxembourg
