The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions launched in 1989 the fourth four-year programme "1992 and Beyond: New opportunities for action to improve living and working conditions in Europe". The objective of that programme was to provide the Community institutions and other policy makers with a flow of information which would be useful in ensuring that economic and social advances would be mutually reinforcing in the completed Single Market. In 1992 (the final year of that programme), the Foundation's activities included the management of some 100 research/dissemination contracts at various stages of development, the organization of 83 meetings conferences and seminars, attendance at 71 external conferences, and the production and dissemination of new publications in 250 editions. A review of the work implemented during the four years of the programme will be prepared in 1993. In September 1992 a new four-year programme (1993-1996) was adopted. This takes into account the developing situation in Europe and will build on the substantial growth experienced by the Foundation over the last few years. The objectives of the 1993-1996 programme are outlined in the section "Looking Forward". The 1992 Report covers the following: - Review of the year 1992: Research, development and dissemination; consulatation and communication; information, publications and dissemination; resources and building developments. - Activities in 1992: Developing industrial relations and participation; restructuring working life; promoting health and safety; protecting the environment; raising the standard and quality of life for all; assessing technologies for the future; information projects; operational documentation; publications; external relations. Annexes include: The 1992 budget of the Foundation; the Administrative Board; the Committee of Experts; Foundation staff; contracts related to the 1992 programme; research bodies and experts involved in 1992 workprogramme implementation; Foundation meetings 1992; international conferences and meetings attended by Foundation staff; Foundation publications 1992.
