The European Commission's DG for Education and Culture has given prior information of a notice for carrying out studies in the context of the eLearning initiative. The initiative 'eLearning: designing tomorrow's education', which comes under the eEurope global action plan, was adopted by the European Commission on 24 May 2000. This initiative aims at mobilising educational and cultural communities, as well as economic and social operators in Europe, in order to accelerate the adaptation of education and training systems to the knowledge-based society and to digital culture. The contract involves the carrying out studies such as analysis, assessment, comparison, feasibility or prospective studies on topics arising from fields of activity as defined in the eLearning initiative lines of action. The studies in question relate in particular to new digital environments, organisations, aids, services and training and learning methods, to the role, place and prospects of European universities in the knowledge-based society, especially as regards the creation of virtual campuses, to the competitiveness of the European educational multimedia industry or to cultural organisations as new places of learning. The total value of the contract for all the lots will be between 800,000 euro and 900,000 euro.
