RACE 1993 technical report
The annual technical report is now available from RACE (RTD in Advanced Communications Technologies in Europe), the specific research and technological development programme (EEC) in the field of communications technologies, 1990-1994. The report presents the achievements and the status of the RACE programme at the end of 1992 and describes the planning and the continuing activities for 1993. This point marks a significant stage in the programme in that the first phase, RACE I, (1987-1992) was completed at the end of 1992. Part B of the report sets out the results of RACE I. The main body of the report describes the work in the second phase, RACE II (1990-1994). Sections of the report present: The overall goals and structure of the programme; the four concepts of RACE (implementation, engineering, verification, and collaboration); the approach to programme management; accompanying measures; technological work in RACE. Appendix 1 presents scenarios for Integrated Broadband Communications (IBC) system evolution. RACE outputs, especially Common Functional Specifications and Common Practice Recommendations, and submissions to standards organizations are described in Appendix 2. Document references are given in Appendix 3. Detailed information on individual RACE 2 projects are included. The objectives, technical approach, output and expected impact of each project are detailed, together with names of the participants and contact information. The results of RACE I are presented, also including individual project summaries. Cross references to projects are provided, listing organizations participating in RACE, abbreviations and acronyms plus an index to all project references in the Report.
