Voluntary participation in eco-management auditing scheme: Amendment to Council Regulation
The conditions for voluntary participation by companies in the industrial sector in a Community eco-management and audit scheme are set out in Council Regulation 1836/93/EEC of 29.6.1993. A Corrigendum to the Regulation makes minor alterations to the "Statements of Participation" annexed to the Regulation and intended for the use of companies wishing to participate in the new scheme. The Community eco-audit aims to encourage improvements in the environmental performance of industrial activities via: - The establishment and implementation of environmental protection systems by companies; - Systematic, objective and periodic evaluation of the performance of such systems; - Provision of information on environmental performance to the public. Companies operating in any industrial activity may participate in the eco-audit scheme by undertaking to comply with the rules and conditions set out in the Regulation at each site involved. The Commission shall request the appropriate European standardization bodies to develop and adopt standards for environmental management systems based on criteria annexed to the proposal. Participants will be entitled to employ an eco-audit logo on company documents and publications.
