Spanish SMEs get funding boost
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has made available 50 million euro for financing ventures promoted by small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Spain. The money will be used for improving the productivity and competitiveness of SMEs. Specifically, the funding will go towards small-scale industrial, tourism and service sector ventures as well as infrastructural, environmental protection, energy, health and education schemes. In 2001 alone, the EIB approved seven global loans totalling 1.29 billion euro to various Spanish financial institutions for financing SME ventures and local authority infrastructural and environmental projects.
