The European Commission has issued a call for tenders for quantifications of technological scenarios for long term trends in transport. This study aims to provide quantitative estimates of the trends in transport volume in an enlarged European Union (EU) until year 2020 and to provide a tool for the evaluation of the impacts of alternative policy measures related to transport. A model-based approach that takes into account developments in economic, demographic, societal, environmental and technological issues should be applied. The demand and the supply side for transport services - as well as their interaction - should be analysed and the factors that influence them should be identified, quantified and included in the model and the resulting tool. All modes of transport, passenger and freight, should be covered. The geographical coverage of the study should include a detailed analysis of the enlarged EU (current members plus candidate countries) as well as the transport flows between the enlarged EU and the rest of the world. The winning bid should be preferably based on already existing models, that have been tested and validated on large scale projects (e.g. projects funded by the European Commission or national governments) and have an established reputation in the scientific community. For further information, please contact: European Commission Directorate-General JRC Ed.
