The Community programme for Education and Training in Technology (COMETT) entered its second phase (COMETT II) in 1990, with an estimated overall appropriation of ECU 230 million, and will run until 1994. The COMETT Compendium, now available, is produced after each call for applications in COMETT II and contains details of all projects accepted. In 1992 clear priorities were established to strengthen the COMETT network throughout Europe. At regional level, priority was given to the new German Laender, Switzerland, Norway, Italy and Southern Spain. At sectoral level, software engineering, chemical engineering, telecommunications, applied electronics and electrical engineering were deemed priority. Under the 1992 call for applications, promoters submitted proposals for university/enterprise training partnerships (UETPs), student placements, personnel exchanges, short training courses and joint training projects. During the first three years of COMETT II, more than 15,000 student placements and 300 personnel exchanges were organized. In total, it is estimated that COMETT II will support more than 7,000 course sessions, training over 500,000 people throughout Europe in advanced technologies. With regard to training and materials, COMETT II projects will produce a minimum of 3,000 outputs over the five-year duration of the programme.
