Results of the BRITE/EURAM aeronautics project EUROVAL on the validation of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes are now available in an edition of the specialized publication "Notes on Fluid Mechanics". EUROVAL, the European Initiative on Validation of CFD Codes (1990-1992), was launched early in 1990 and incorporated 16 partner organizations from industry, including small and medium sized enterprises, universities and research establishments in 11 European countries. Its aim was to work towards an improvement and enhancement of the quality of existing computational fluid dynamics codes based on a careful validation against measurements. It was planned as a strongly collaborative project, aimed at generating high-quality numerical results. Special emphasis was placed on the assessment of turbulence models on the basis of two- and three-dimensional flow investigations. The project was one of those selected under the pilot phase of Area 5 (aeronautics) of the industrial and materials technologies programme BRITE/EURAM, with the purpose of enhancing and expanding the technological capabilities if the European aeronautics industry, concentrating on the key technology areas. The series "Notes on Numerical Fluid Mechanics" aims to publish promptly and in detailed form new material in the field of numerical fluid dynamics including the use of advanced computer systems. Reports on specialized conferences, workshops, research programmes and monographs are included.
