The European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP) is to move from Berlin, where it has been situated since 1975, to Thessaloniki. CEDEFOP will become the first institution of the European Union which is based in Greece. The Centre is a decentralised EU Organization which provides specialized support to the Commission in the promotion and development of professional and continuing training. It contributes, through a range of scientific and technical activities, to the implementation of EU policy in this field, in particular with regard to the exchange of information and experience. CEDEFOP's 1994 work programme includes preparing the January 1995 launch of a programme for the implementation of professional training policy in the European Union (LEONARDO). CEDEFOP will collaborate with the Commission to ensure a better understanding and improved exchange of information, on the changes taking place in professions within the EU and on the evolution of professional qualifications.
