Innovation in western Greece is to receive a boost from the Archimedes project. Funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the region of Western Greece, and developed by the University of Patras, the project will lead to an open information system for the promotion of innovative results, as well as training courses on innovative technologies. The overall objectives of Archimedes are to collect and diffuse innovative results, enhance the access of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to research and innovation, and to promote cooperation at regional, national and European level. The new innovation portal will not only provide information on innovative results, but will offer contact and partner searches, information on news and events, and a platform for discussing new innovative results. The training courses will be available on the Internet or in a tele-education form, and will familiarise SMEs with new technologies and the development of innovative applications. The region is hoping that by facilitating the flow of information between SMEs, universities and research institutes, competitiveness will increase, particularly among SMEs.
