The European Union's SYNERGY programme has launched an initiative to promote the transfer of experience gained in European countries in the field of cogeneration. Cogeneration is the efficient use of combined sources of energy. The initiative is organized by the National Commissions of Energy in Mexico, Peru and Chile in conjunction with the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE) in Spain. Financed by the SYNERGY programme and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECI), it will encompass a series of activities for each of the three countries. Mexico: - Transfer of the IDAE's analysis model to determine the pre-feasibility of cogeneration projects (PRECOG); - Information on the methodology used to determine the national cogeneration potential; - Information on cogeneration legislation; - Register and grading of companies dealing with engineering, consulting and manufacturing; - Visits of a group of Mexican businessmen and technicians. Peru: - Evaluation of the potential of cogeneration; - Viability study for cogeneration in the plant; - Cogeneration seminar. Chile: - Visits of a group of Chilean business and technicians to Spanish companies which operate or are planning to operate cogeneration plants; - Pre-feasibility studies in ten companies in order to determine the feasibility of the application of cogeneration; - A cogeneration seminar.
