The VALUE programme received 135 proposals following its call for tenders for the selection of organizations and individuals to undertake work related to the research/scientific community and research/society interfaces under the programme. The objective of activities under the research/scientific community interface (Interface II) is to contribute to interdisciplinary reflection in contribution to research, its methods, problems and impact. Activities under the research/society interface (Interface III) aim to identify and study the impact on society of the new scientific and technological knowledge acquired as a result of research activities, especially where the interaction between science and technology on the one hand, and society, on the other, is particularly critical. The call was published on 22 July 1993 (OJ No C 198). The projects submitted in response have an average budget of ECU 190,000. Selection is now under way, and final decisions on the financing of projects are expected to be made in April 1994.
