The Commission recently adopted the 1993 Report of the Advisory Committee on Safety, Hygiene and Health Protection at Work. This report marks the conclusion of the European Year of Safety, Hygiene and Health Protection at Work and will contribute to the Commission's plans in this area. The Advisory Committee is responsible for helping the Commission to prepare and carry out activities in the fields of safety, hygiene and health protection in the workplace. Its members include representatives of the governments, employers and workers in each Member State. In addition to its work on the "General framework for action by the Commission of the European Communities in the field of safety, hygiene and health protection at work" (COM(93) 560 final) which deals with future action in the health and safety area, the Committee has made an important contribution to EU social legislation. In 1993 it issued seven opinions on proposed Directives, including the Directives concerning: - Use of equipment at work; - Minimum health and safety requirements for agricultural and related activities and workplaces; - Cableway installations designed to carry passengers.
