"Summaries of ESPRIT projects: Software and advanced information processing" provides an overview of the work carried out in the software and advanced information processing (SAIP) area of the ESPRIT programme. Each of the 92 projects and 17 exploratory actions is described as well as the participating organizations. The main objective of ESPRIT's software and advanced information processing sector is to provide the industrial technology required for the development of IT products likely to emerge on the market in the 1990s. The programme is aimed at the management and control of system complexity, reducing development and operational costs and improving the quality, reliability and performance of systems. This edition incorporates progress and results reported since late 1992 and contains the first descriptions of the many new projects launched following the ESPRIT III call for proposals in 1993 (OJ No C 67 of 10.3.1993).
