The news feed or content syndication service RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is gradually becoming available for a number of CORDIS services. In order to make the best possible use of this feature, the Guidance section of the CORDIS website now provides a full description and step-by-step user guide to help anyone who wishes to make use of CORDIS RSS feeds to set up the service. RSS is a method of content syndication that provides users with brief summaries of the content of a web site together with links to the full text or to other meta-data entries. Subscribed users are thus regularly kept informed of the latest developments in their chosen area(s) of interest. These news feeds provide users with a list of the latest headlines and links, making it easier for them to keep informed and to directly access the full text of each news item. Subscribing to RSS feeds means users can receive the latest information from a number of different services without having to visit each webpage. Instead, entering their RSS information stream into any compatible programme will make all the selected news sources available on one single screen. This new level of information dissemination makes it much easier for users to remain up to date in all areas they are interested in. The subscriber can chose which method of delivery is most appropriate for their needs. RSS notification can take several forms, ranging from e-mail messages or a personalised news homepage to dedicated RSS readers (news aggregators) and even PDAs, smart-phones or pocket PCs connected to a GRPS mobile telephone. CORDIS RSS supports several browsers and e-mail applications. At present, two CORDIS services provide an RSS service: the IST Results service and the CORDIS News service. The RSS user guide in the Guidance section is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Polish.
