The European Commission has issued a call for proposals for concerted actions in the framework of the specific RTD programme in the field of marine science and technology (MAST, 1990-94). This call is restricted to the following two topics: - Application of massive parallel computing techniques and other high-performance computing techniques for modelling marine geophysical fluid dynamics, or for modelling marine ecosystems; - Model-model-intercomparison of general-circulation models of the Mediterranean Sea, or of advection-dispersion models of Northwest European shelf-seas. The maximum total budget is ECU 750,000. The objectives and topics covered by the call are described in more detail in the background materials, available on written request from the Commission services. The research areas and topics will be addressed by concerted actions in conformity with the rules for implementation set out in the Council Decision on the MAST Programme. Concerted actions consist of action by the Community to coordinate the individual research activities carried out in the Member States. They may benefit from funding of up to 100% of coordinating expenditure. Project proposals can be submitted by enterprises, research institutions and universities which are located in the European Union or, under certain special conditions, in other countries. Each project has to include, in general, at least two contractors in two different Member States.
