ESC opinion on "Enterprise policy: A new dimension for SMEs"
At its 284th plenary session of 27 February 1991, the Economic and Social Committee adopted unanimously an Opinion on "A new dimension for small and medium-sized enterprises" - a proposal for a Council Decision revising the programme for the improvement of the business environment and the promotion of the development of enterprises and in particular small and medium-sized enterprises, in the Community (OJ No C 13 of 19.1.1990). The proposal concerns a supplementary budget for enterprise policy up to the end of 1993. The ESC takes this opportunity to make an interim report on enterprise policy over the last two years (a blueprint of structural policy at Community level) approving the Commission's concentration on SMEs and adding that SMEs in all sectors of trade and industry should be encompassed. Comment concerns pilot projects, suitability and testing of initiatives, new activities, integration policy, labour involvement, training, women (NOW), Euro Info and BC-Net, sectoral policy, SME financing, statistics, non-EEC cooperation.
