Information on health protection in the event of radiological emergency
With a view to the implementation of the Council Directive of 27 November1989 (89/618/ EURATOM) on informing the general public about health protection measures to be applied and steps to be taken in the event of a radiological emergency (OJ No L 357 of 7.12.1989) the Commission wishes to communicate reference material aiding the Member States to transpose the Directive into national law. Two types of information are distinguished in the above Directive. These are: Prior information to be given in a normal situation to the population likely to be affected; information to be given in the event of a radiological emergency to the population actually affected. In both cases, the Commission Communication advises on organization supporting the dissemination of information and on determination of the content of the information. The Commission suggests that Member States take due account of this Communication when introducing or adapting the regulations or administrative practices suitable for transposing the Directive into law.
