The European Commission is seeking a highly qualified candidate to occupy a temporary post at grade A3 as Adviser to the Director-General in the field of the information society. Duties will involve the coordination and monitoring of the work relating to the information society, including the promotion of synergies between technology applications, telecommunications policy, and partnerships between the public and private sectors. Another important task will be to set up a mechanism to promote the receptiveness of public opinion to the opportunities provided by the information society. Candidates must have a university degree and at least 15 years professional experience. They must have: - Extensive experience of dealing with the essential aspects of the creation of the information society; - Experience of communicating Community policies to the public, taking account of cultural differences within the European Union; - A capacity for interdisciplinary work in order to integrate DG XIII's activities into the promotion of competitiveness and growth at EU level; - Extensive experience in an international environment. The general conditions are as follows: - Candidates must be a national of one of the Community Member States; - Candidates must have a thorough knowledge of one official Community language and a satisfactory knowledge of a second Community language; - Candidates must have been born after 31 October 1938. The age limit may be waived for temporary staff of European Community institutions or raised to take account of compulsory military or other service, education of children and physical handicap. Details are set out in the documents sent to the candidates. - Temporary contract of fixed duration (renewable); - Commission staff must be available to work in any of the Commission's places of activity and in many cases outside their country of origin. Applications from officials of European Community institutions will not be accepted.
