The European Commission has published a call for expressions of interest for the provision of neutron detectors. Interested parties wishing to apply for inclusion in a list are invited to do so in accordance with the provisions of the tender notice. The list compiled as a result of the notice will be used exclusively for contracts with an estimated value below the thresholds laid down in the relevant directives on public contracts. The notice covers neutron detectors suitable for the detection and measurement of nuclear material (uranium, plutonium and mixtures). The detectors are expected to consist of thermal neutron detectors (for example 3He or BF3 tubes) and moderating material (polyethylene) constructed according to the shape and size of the samples to be measured. The detectors need to conform to various safety standards (electrical, fire, etc.). The supplier should be able to provide the preamplifier/discrimination electronics to be used with the detector, which may be required to perform at high counting rates (>1MHz). The output pulses should be suitable for use with coincidence-counting electronics (normally TTL compatible). The detectors and electronics must have very good stability (short term and long term) to enable precise measurements to be made. Detailed specifications will be produced for each detector. Specifications and invitations to tender are available from: European Commission DG XVII Plateau du Kirchberg L-2920 Luxembourg Tel. +352-430132258; Fax +352-430133545 Completed expressions of interest should be sent to the same address.
