The European Commission, DG XII, has published an information package on "CRAFT: Technology stimulation measures in favour of SMEs". The information package provides all necessary information for the submission of proposals to the CRAFT programme. It covers rules for participation, proposals for exploratory awards and cooperative research, procedures and principles of contracts, and general information and assistance. CRAFT is a technology stimulation action under the BRITE/EURAM III programme for industrial and materials technologies. It aims to encourage and facilitate the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Community research activities. It comprises two shared cost measures to which SMEs can apply: - Exploratory awards; - Cooperative research projects. The overall aims of CRAFT are: - To promote the development of technologies adapted to the needs of SMEs, in particular for traditional sectors; - To support SMEs in their efforts to strengthen their capabilicontribute to the development of the technologies they require; - To promote trans-national networking and cooperation among SMEs, and between SMEs, research organizations and large companies, from all regions of the Community; - To facilitate the participation of SMEs in BRITE/EURAM industrial research projects, allowing SMEs to take a leading or major role within such projects. The information package has a provisional character until the official call for proposals on 15 December 1994.
