The European Commission, DG XII, has published a report entitled "Workshop on tools for genome mapping". The report contains the proceedings of a workshop which took place at the Institut Pasteur in Paris on 16-18 January 1994. The European Commission has implemented several major programmes to support genome research. Much attention has been placed on the development of new tools for genome mapping within the programme for human genome analysis (BIOMED I). The workshop examined the following; - New tools to cleave DNA; - Novel principle for DNA sequencing; - Novel mapping strategies; - New developments in genetic mapping; - Tools for clinical diagnostics.
