The Bureau for International Research and Technology Cooperation (BIT) has created a new project in the framework of the European EUREKA Initiative in the field of woodwork, entitled "EUREKA Wood Initiative". Companies and research institutes in 15 European countries will take part in the international brokerage during the national exhibition "Holzzeit in Murau" ("Wood-Time in Murau") to find suitable partners for cooperation in wood projects. It will take place in Murau (Styria, Austria) from 17-19 May 1995. Austria is well-known as a raw material supplier and exporter of wood. There is a great demand for development in industrial processing and high-quality wood production. The growth potential of the wood market is expected to be pushed by expanded research and development projects. The aim is to set a real innovation stimulus for SMEs in the wood industry. The plenary sessions will demonstrate how to participate in EUREKA projects as well as examining the effect for Austrian economy and science of support and cooperation possibilities with international partners. The possibility of finding new export markets and distributions, especially for Central and Eastern Europe, will also be explored. There will be a report on the latest trends in wood industry and state-of-the-art research and development as well as training and further education within the Austrian market. The economic success of an international group and its worldwide networking will be the subject of discussion. During the conference a number of workshops will take place on the following topics: - Manufacturing automation; - Material properties; - Environment; - Energy and biomass; - Drying and steaming; - New and recycled products; - Lifting handle construction; - Construction products.
