The Centre for Earth Observation (CEO) of the Joint Research Centre has published a call for tender for a series of studies in support of the Centre's pathfinder requirements. The CEO project will launch the following implementation studies: - Population of the International Directory Network (IDN) with descriptions of European data sets. The IDN is seen by several scientific and operational bodies as the high-level directory of earth environmental catalogues and services. The study will result in a collection of metadata of European data sets, ready to be installed at the next IDN node; - Implementation and feasibility test of an "Information Subscription Service". A prototype service which regularly sends information on earth observation (EO) to subscribed users depending on the area of interest of the user will be installed. The user reaction to this service will be monitored; - Implementation of a "decent technology" access to EO data catalogues and information. A prototype service will be installed using "low level" office and consumer electronics technologies to access EO information and data catalogues; - Installation of tools for integrated network and service monitoring. A set of pre-operational tools will be installed to monitor existent electronic EO data and information services in order to retrieve the status and gather statistics of the various services that are delivered to the user from the network to the application layer; - A communication technology "proof-of-concept" proposed by bidders. Further communication prototypes can be proposed by bidders to aid the CEO pathfinder process with the evaluation of critical technology. Proposals may cover one or more studies requested in the tender. For further information, please contact: European Commission Joint Research Centre Mr. P.
