In the framework of the European Network of Research and Technology Organizations (RTOs), the European Commission, DG XIII, has published a booklet containing "Synopses of projects dedicated to quality". RTOs are research and technology organizations which provide technology-related services such as basic and applied research, technical consultancy, certification and testing, dissemination of technical information, etc. to groups of companies either in the same sector or concerned with the same technology (e.g. laser, welding, robotics, etc.). The 18 RTO networks detailed in the booklet are specifically concerned with quality, and were among those accepted for support further to the recent SPRINT call for proposals. These projects bring together approximately 80 collective research centres, universities and institutes from the majority of Member States. The projects cover traditional industrial sectors such as textiles, leather, glass, food-processing industries, etc. as well as advanced technologies such as computer vision. They are concerned with general quality-management issues and practices as well as with more specific topics such as certification, quality control, non-destructive testing and interpretation of international quality standards.
