The European Commission, DG XI, intends to conclude a study contract in the area of water pollution and water quality. The study (reference XI.D1/95/1133) concerns the development of technical specifications for the evaluation of sources of pollution and other unfavourable anthropogenic effects on Community surface waters. Article 4.1 of the proposal for a Directive on the ecological quality of water (OJ No C 222 of 10.8.1994) requires the Commission to develop technical specifications for evaluating sources of pollution and other unfavourable anthropogenic effects on Community surface waters. This study will examine existing pollutant registers within the EC and third countries. It will evaluate how the existing registers meet the requirements of the Directive and will mention the recommendations for the technical specifications required under Article 4.1. It will also estimate the resource implications or recommended specifications. Tenderers must at least have experience in the area of: - Water-pollution problems; - Pollution surveys; - Costs of options as regards policies; - Administrative and technical procedures of the relevant authorities in a large part of the Union Member States and in third countries.
