On 30-31 March 1995, a conference on inter-regional cooperation in research and technological development took place in Stuttgart. The event was attended by Mrs. Edith Cresson, Commissioner for science, research and development, and education and training, and presided by Mr. Dieter Spoeri, Deputy Minister for Baden-Wurtemberg. More than 300 participants attended the conference, which emphasized the importance of inter-regional cooperation and its role in the success and progress of research projects. To illustrate this, coordinators of several projects associating various European regions, such as Baden-Wurtemberg, Lombardy, the Rhone-Alps region and Catalonia, presented the results of the work they have achieved as a result of this cooperation and, in particular, as a result of the support offered by EU research and development framework programmes.
