New COST projects
Meeting on 14 and 15 June, the Committee of Senior Officials for European Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical research (COST) has approved a new COST action on the characterization of optical fibres for the photonic sector (COST 241). Three further actions are to be decided at the Committee's meeting in Luxembourg on 24 and 25 September this year. These are: COST 509 on the corrosion and protection of metals in contact with concrete; COST 614 on the impact of high CO2 emission rates, climatic changes and air pollutants on the physiology of trees (ICAT); COST 682, aimed at optimizing the concept and operation of biological processing plants for waste water through the use of computer programmes.
