The European Commission, DG V, has published an invitation to tender concerning the collection of information and the making of recommendations to the Commission concerning the organization of public information campaigns and on increasing public awareness of the risks of tobacco smoking in the context of the "Europe Against Cancer" programme. The principal functions will be to: - Collect information concerning the consumption of tobacco, and public health aspects of tobacco smoking; - Collect information concerning the economic, statistical, legislative and political aspects of the production, processing, sale and consumption of tobacco and tobacco products in the European Union; - Make proposals to the Commission on the ways and means of increasing public awareness of the risks of tobacco smoking and the organization of public information campaigns.
