The European Commission will participate at the "Agrobalt '95" exhibition in Vilnius, Lithuania, on 25-28 April 1995. The Commission's stand will present the Community's PHARE and TEMPUS programmes to the Baltic States. The Commission's presence comes as a result of the entry into force of the EU's free trade agreements with the Baltic States on 1 January 1995 and the initialling of Europe Agreements with the latter on 12 April 1995. These events, combined with an intensified economic and political cooperation between the EU and the Baltic States, underline the strengthening of relations between Lithuania and its Baltic neighbours. The Commission's stand will contain displays and general information about the European Union and about the PHARE and TEMPUS programmes. PHARE is the EU's programme of economic assistance to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, including the Baltic States. TEMPUS (Trans-European Mobility Scheme for University Studies) brings to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe the benefit of educational and training programmes similar to those already in operation in Western Europe (e.g. teacher exchanges, student exchanges and the teaching of foreign languages).
