The European Commission's Statistical Office has published an invitation to tender for the selection of organizations or individuals to undertake research work relating to various thematic domains in official statistics for scientific and technical support activities of a competitive nature. The work is to be undertaken in the framework of the Fourth Framework Programme of RTD activities (1994-1998) (Council Decision 94/1110/EC of 26.4.1994 OJ No L 126 of 18.5.1994) and related to a specific programme adopted to be carried out for the European Community, on the one hand by means of direct action (JRC) and on the other by means of activities within the framework of a competitive approach and intended for scientific and technical support to Community policies (Council Decision 94/918/EC of 15.11.1994 OJ No L 361 of 31.12.1994). The areas concerned relate to socio-economic research, information technologies, transport, environment, and the diffusion and valorization of research results. The services needed are divided into the following 29 lots: Lot 1: Ratio non-actives to actives; Lot 2: Non-monetary indicators of well-being; Lot 3: Employment market analysis; Lot 4: Improved time use survey techniques; Lot 5: In-depth and methodological research of the European Community Household Panel (ECHP); Lot 6: Wages and labour costs; Lot 7: Modelling multimodal transport networks; Lot 8: Multimodal transport networks - data analysis; Lot 9: Forecasts of industrial variables using neural network techniques; Lot 10: Visualization of industrial statistics using high-resolution PC graphics; Lot 11: Applying neural network techniques to investigate lead-lag structures in industrial short-term indicators and detect turning points in the business cycle; Lot 12: Urban statistics; Lot 13: Data quality; Lot 14: Adjustment for trading days and seasonal variations; Lot 15: Geographical information systems in statistics; Lot 16: Use of neural networks for improving satellite image processing techniques for land-cover/land-use classification; Lot 17: Quality-control procedures for land-use data derived using remote-sensing technology; Lot 18: Modelling of environmental pressure indicators: existing approaches; Lot 19: Development of a database linking commercial pesticides to active ingredients and to the chemicals classification system; Lot 20: Estimation of renewable water resources in the EU; Lot 21: Multimedia and new information technologies; Lot 22: Diffusion of the results achieved in the DOSES programme; Lot 23: Valorization of the results achieved in the DOSES programme - the CASIP prototype software; Lot 24: Valorization of the results achieved in the DOSES programme - the ESIA prototype software; Lot 25: Valorization of the results achieved in the DOSES programme - the ALIEN prototype software; Lot 26: Databases and metadata for statistical information; Lot 27: Image synthesis; Lot 28: Data compression (1); Lot 29: Data compression (2).
