"PARTNERSHIP '95", the annual conference on cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), will be held in Stockholm on 8-9 June 1995. The theme of the conference will be "Internationalization of SMEs in the context of a global economy". The inaugural session of "PARTNERSHIP '95" will be opened by Commissioner Christos Papoutsis, in charge of enterprise policy and energy, and Mr. Sten Heckscher, Swedish Minister for Industry and Commerce. The aim of "PARTNERSHIP '95" is to gather all the members of the networks and programmes for cooperation created by the European Commission. It will address the crucial topics of globalization and internationalization of the economy in the light of improving competitiveness of European SMEs, notably by using the full potential offered by the information society. As part of its efforts to promote cross-border cooperation between SMEs in the European Union, the European Commission has created two networks for partner search, the BRE (Bureau de Rapprochement des Entreprises) and the BC-NET (Business Cooperation Network). These networks operate through members situated all over Europe and an increasing number of third countries, mainly in Asia, Latin America and the Mediterranean basin, but also in Canada and Australia. Moreover, the Commission has set up the EUROPARTENARIAT and INTERPRISE programmes to encourage face-to-face business meetings between entrepreneurs of different regions of the European Union on the one hand and firms of the European Union and third countries mainly in Eastern and Central Europe, the Mediterranean region and Latin America on the other hand. The first of the two editions of EUROPARTENARIAT for 1996 is scheduled to take place in Lulea, Northern Sweden.
