AGENT is the European Horizon 2020 research project establishing a global gene bank network to sustainably unlock the genetic diversity of food crops for future generations and make them intuitively accessible for modern breeding programmes. The project has just released an animated video clip showcasing the approach and goals of the project. The short animation introduces AGENT in an easily accessible and entertaining way to the interested public. The clip is available on the AGENT project website (https://agent-project.eu/) and on YouTube (https://youtu.be/5zZr1_YmrHQ). Since AGENT launched in May 2020 the 19 international project partners have made good progress towards their objective of establishing a pan-European wheat and barley precision collection despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Gene bank partners have been busy growing their precision collections and harvesting plant material for DNA extraction in preparation for genotyping. In order to foster strong collaborations, AGENT has also been actively involved in joint activities with other European research projects. Together with INCREASE, HARNESSTOM and GEN4OLIVE, AGENT participated in and presented at the BreedingValue kick-off meeting on 20th January 2021 and there is ongoing collaboration and exchange between these projects, as well as with GenRes Bridge and FORGENIUS.
