The European Commission, DG III, has published an invitation to tender with a view to conducting a study on the different chemical industry subsectors in the People's Republic of China. The study involves carrying out five main objectives: - Describing the Chinese industrial structure, in accordance with sectorial cover such as that published in Official Journal No L 83 of 3.4.1993 (NACE Revision 1, sections 24 and 25, with four figures), and based on the collection of statistical data detailed in the tender documents; - Supplying the quantitative and qualitative data necessary to assess the "health" of each of the industrial sectors (historical data from 1988 to 1994; forecasts for 1995 and 2000); - Assessing the competitiveness of the sectors and identifying the market prospects in the long term (more or less); - Identifying, on the basis of statistical and qualitative data, actions which could be envisaged within the context of political, administrative and industrial contacts between China and the European Union; - Identifying legal obstacles relating to a possible cooperation, and arrange for possible technical assistance in this area.
