At its 29 May 1995 session, the General Affairs Council exchanged views on relations with Ukraine and welcomed the imminent signature of the Interim Agreement by President Kouchma during his visit to Brussels on 1 June 1995. Taking note of the conclusions of the Economic and Finance Council of 22 May, the Council discussed the undertaking given by President Kouchma to close down the Chernobyl nuclear plant by 2000. It agreed to return to this question at its next meeting on 12 June and requested the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) to undertake preparatory work on this issue in the perspective of the G7 Summit at Halifax on 16 and 17 June 1995.
