The European Commission, DG XIII, has published a call for expressions of interest in the field of multimedia education software. The Commission recently set up a "Multimedia educational software" task force, whose job is to identify joint projects of industrial interest which will mobilize the relevant partners in the Member States. Funding will be available from European programmes which have already been adopted, such as the Fourth Framework Programme of research and technological development (telematic applications, information technologies, targeted socio-economic research) and the education and training programmes (SOCRATES, LEONARDO DA VINCI), and from programmes currently being adopted (MEDIA II, INFO 2000, RAPHAEL). This call is addressed to all individuals, institutions or undertakings involved in producing, using or disseminating multimedia educational software. The aim is to gather ideas for initiatives of European interest which, in the short and medium term, could help develop the European market in such software, improve its quality and adapt it to the needs of users, including children. These joint projects could strike a particular chord in 1996, which is to be the "European Year of Lifelong Education and Training". Applications must arrive before 25 July 1995.
