The European Parliament Committee on Research, Technological Development and Energy (CRTDE) has prepared a report on the Commission's communication on "Research and technological development: Achieving coordination through cooperation". The communication sets out a strategy for coordinating national and European RTD policies. The CRTDE's report calls for a redefinition of the bodies which will be responsible for coordinating the various policies. In particular, the Committee recommends the use of the Commission's Scientific and Technical Research Committee (CREST) to assist the Commission and the Council in defining the EU's scientific and technological policy and in comparing the different policies currently being followed at national and Community level with a view to their coordination.
