The European Commission, DG XV, has published a call for proposals for the completion of a study on the major data protection problems in the sectors of health, social security and statistics where interchange of data between administrations (IDA) is envisaged, as well as on the regulation of data protection within the European Commission with regard to IDA projects in which it is involved. This call for tender involves the following 3 lots, the full details of which are described in the specifications: Lot 1 - Study on health and social security sector: - The study should present the major data protection problems encountered in the health and social security sectors in the Community. it should, in particular, look at the differing national and Community needs, both current and future, in the area of data processing, including the transborder exchange of data between administrations; Lot 2 - Study on the statistics sector: - The study should present the problems arising from the of protection of natural and legal persons with regard to data processing in the statistical sector and, in particular, problems posed by the circulation of information on networks; Lot 3 - Study on IDA involving the Commission: - The study should examine the specific provisions with regard to processing carried out by the Commission that it may be appropriate to elaborate by way of complementary measures to a general regulation on data protection. The aim of these provisions would be to ensure and facilitate, in a coherent manner, the exercise of individual rights with regard to the approximately 10 IDA projects in which the Commission participates or will participate as a supplier or user of personal data.
