The European Commission, DG XVIII, has published an open invitation to tender for the completion of a study on the financing of reconversion investments in the coal and steel regions of Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC) in the light of European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) reconversion experience. The ECSC has contributed to the financing of reconversion projects in the coal and steel regions of the European Communities under Article 56 of the ECSC Treaty. Loans are made available for productive investments in the appropriate regions and rebates are associated to the job-creation element of these investments. A study is now being launched with the objective of examining the experience acquired in this field and exploring its relevance to the CEEC. The study will consider options for the transfer of the ECSC know-how for the benefit of the CEEC.
