The European Commission, DG XIII, has published a call for proposals for preparatory actions in the domain of Euro-ISDN. Title XII of the Treaty establishing the European Union provides that the European Community contributes to the establishment and development of trans-European networks, including telecommunications. Euro-ISDN was one of the first major proposals of the Commission for the application of these provisions, having been identified as the main building blocks (already available at the network level) for the information society. The call concerns the following projects areas: - TI 2.1/95 Euro-ISDN for an integrated public health network: Analysis of the interoperability of existing applications and pilot deployment of the integrated trans-national networks interconnecting public administration services. - TI 2.2/95 Euro-ISDN to interconnect traffic information centres: Feasibility study and field trial for the exchange of road traffic/travel information (RTTI) between at least 3 road traffic operators located in different European countries. - TI 2.3/95 European tertiary distance education network: Development and launch of a distance-learning network based on the current network of the institutions involved in the provision of tertiary education and training, such as universities, colleges and the current network of European Open Universities. - TI 2.4/95 Euro-ISDN as access to city information highways: Focusing on the needs of SMEs and citizens, the gist of the present project is to analyse the possibilities of improving the access of those parties to the city information highway, by the usage of Euro-ISDN; - TI 2.5/95 Euro-ISDN as a platform for teleworking: ISDN is used as a platform for teleworking applications. Existing applications frequently show interoperability problems. Identify and describe such problems. Test relevant products against one another and develop a target architecture. - TI 2.6/95 Electronic trading for SMEs using Euro-ISDN: The objective is to verify, within the framework of a user pilot at European level, the feasibility, efficiency and the economic benefits of electronic trading applications among SMEs by using Euro-ISDN; - TI 2.7/95 Trans-regional distance-learning platform using Euro-ISDN: The study will define a set of joint requirements for distance learning and will create an integrated trans-regional platform bringing together educational and technical expertise; - TI 2.8/95 Euro-ISDN awareness actions for SMEs. Devise, organize and run a series of seminars in all Member States for promoting the awareness of ISDN-based services for SMEs and the potentials of re-engineering the SMEs' business process with the introduction of advanced communications technologies; - TI 2.9/95 Validation experiments with SMEs for telematic services: To perform a major pilot, involving at least 12 SMEs in 3 Member States, using a PC-platform with ISDN connectivity for a variety of generic services. Results will be shown in a series of seminars.
